Sloppy Joe Tater Tot Casserole is the ultimate comfort food made with ground beef, cheese, sloppy joe mix and topped with tater tots.

Sloppy Joe sandwiches are so messy, I end up eating them with a fork anyways. So why not through it in a casserole dish with some cheddar cheese and tots?

  5. Top sloppy joe mixture with half of the tater tots, all lined flat and even across the entire top.
  6. Cover completely with all of the cheese.
  7. Place the remaining tater tots on top of the cheese to create the final layer. Be sure to place tater tots flat and even across.

Do I Have to Use Lean Meat?

If you are not using 93% (or higher) lean ground beef, do not cook the ground beef with the sloppy joe mix. Instead brown the ground beef first and drain over a layer of paper towels. From there, mix in the sloppy joe mix and cook thoroughly before adding in the veggies.

What is The Best Cheese for this Dish?

This dish is best with freshly grated cheddar cheese or bagged shredded cheddar that specifies “great for melting”. Otherwise cheese will not melt as optimally. When the casserole is fully cooked, the tater tots should be golden brown and the cheese should be bubbly.

Storage Instructions

Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-5 days after cooking.
