Recipe Notes

  • Don’t overcook pasta. It will continue cooking in the oven. If you like your pasta al dente when you eat it, boil your pasta a minute or two shy of what the pasta box says. Then the time in the oven will cook it to about the perfect al dente. If you like your pasta softer than al dente, boil the pasta to al dente and the time in the oven will cook it to your liking.
  • Instead of 1 cup milk and 1 cup heavy cream, you can use 2 cups half and half.
  • Swiss cheese takes a bit more time to melt so be patient and keep stirring until melted.

Variations

I recommend adding a cup of peas or cooked broccoli to get more vegetables into this dish. You can use rotisserie chicken if you don’t want to cook chicken. This is a perfect recipe when you need to use leftover ham or chicken.

Make the recipe up to the point of putting it in the oven. Cover the baking dish with foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate until you’re ready to bake. Continue on with the directions but add 15 more minutes or more to the baking time. Bake till hot and bubbly.
