Air Fryer Oreos

Air Fryer Oreos Ingredients

To make this fried cookie recipe, you will need the following ingredients (see the recipe card below for exact amounts):

  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Sour cream: You can use plain Greek yogurt instead, for a healthier and very moist option.
  • Salted butter: You can replace this with unsalted butter if you prefer, but the salt does add a nice flavor to the dough.
  • Oreos: Double Stuf Oreos are fantastic in this recipe, but you can use your favorite type of Oreo here as well. Try Mega Stuf, peanut butter, birthday cake, golden Oreos, or any other one you love.
  • Powdered sugar

Tools Need to Make Air Fried Oreos

Air Fryer – the standard size will work fine for this recipe.

Rolling pin – for rolling out the dough.

3 ½ inch round cookie cutter – for cutting the dough. If you don’t have a cutter, you can eyeball it and cut around the Oreo.

How to Make Fried Oreos in an Air Fryer

  1. Combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Once combined, mix in the sour cream.
  2. Stir until you form a dough and then roll out onto a very floured surface. Knead 2-3 times before rolling out your dough with a floured rolling pin.
  3. Roll dough out until it’s ¼ inch thick and use a 3 ½ inch round cookie cutter to cut out dough pieces.
  4. Use a pastry brush to brush some of the salted butter on top of each dough round.
  5. Place an Oreo into the center of each dough round and gently wrap each cookie with dough. Pinch the dough edges together to enclose the Oreo completely.
  6. Brush more butter on both sides of the wrapped cookie and then cook in the air fryer for 11 minutes at 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Flip the cookies over and cook for another 4 minutes. You will need to do a few batches to not overcrowd the air fryer. Place only enough Oreos to make 1 layer, non-touching, in each batch.
  7. Once they are finished cooking, sprinkle powdered sugar on the cookies, optional. Plate and serve.

What Do I Do if My Dough is Sticky?

The dough can turn out rather sticky, so make sure to flour your surfaces very well and add sprinkles of flour to the dough as needed to make it workable.

Storage Instructions

Put your Oreos in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When reheating, it’s best to use the oven or put them back in the air fryer for 1-2 minutes.

What is the Best Way to Wrap Oreos in Dough?

Wrapping the Oreos can be kind of tricky. I tried to do as thin a dough as possible, but that often meant getting some tears in the dough as I was wrapping the Oreos. However, if that happens, just pinch the dough together where the hole formed.

Place the Oreo in the middle of the round, and gently fold each piece over the middle. Pinch the rest of the sides into the middle. Then, press the dough into the back side of the Oreo to cover it. When the Oreo is covered completely, it’s ready for air frying.
